I made this Multi-Screwdriver as a Christmas present. The kit came from Rockler and I turned the handle from some Birdseye Maple. I was very pleased at the Maple figure once it was turned and finished.

The box was made from quarter sawn Red Oak. The corners are mitered and then ash splines were added.

For hinges, I made wooden ones that are about 3/8” thick and made of ash. I used a brass tube as an insert into the hinge to strengthen it and a finish nail for a hinge pin. The latch on front is a hinge which I modified to the latch and it snaps over a small dowel.

The insert of the box was made to fit the screwdriver and not let things bounce around. The insert can be removed and the box used for something else.

The finish on the box and screwdriver is wipe on Poly. I used five coats and then let it dry. I completed the finish with a buffed finishing wax from Minwax.

My thanks to DanielP for his idea on making more durable wooden hinges. In one of his projects, he details how he made the hinges with a 1/8” square brass tube to strengthen the hinge. I have incorporated this in my box.

You don’t know which look better – the box or screw driver.
