Beautiful box Ken. Can you share how you connected the bottom to the sides? Also, how thick is your top?
Best,

Good selection of woods; the name will always have significance and will always be beautiful and useful.

Jim,
The bottom is let into a dado that was plowed before the box was assembled. The top is about 8mm thick (5/16”) and turns on brass pins that project into the sides. Everything gets machined and then the whole mess goes together at once, so it’s important to dry fit everything first.
Sky and Zlatanv,
I love the ebony. The crack in this heart was a surprise because it didn’t show before I started to shape the wood. Sometimes you just get lucky!

I agree, the crack in the heart turned out to be a nice detail.

Very nice. Lovely grain with a sentimental heart.
