I have a small shop so storage room for hand tools

like routers, sanders drills is a problem. I used to

keep them in cabinets, but reaching to the back of the

shelves and untangling the cords and getting a tool that

was hooked onto another tool was a real pain.

I was going to build a roll around cabinet for my planner

so I came up with an idea for storing some of my tools.

I built four pull out shelves that where mounted on full

extension ball bearing slides, each tool has a dedicated

spot that has a 1/4 inch thick saddle to keep them in place

when I move the planner cabinet.

I put a handle under the planner bed extension so that

I can move the cabinet if needed to plane longer boards.

The 3 wheel setup on the cabinet makes it easy to move

in and out of tight places. The 4 inch line from

the planner goes into my central dust collector.

I have about 6 feet of line that is stored on the back of

the cabinet for when I move it.

Because the 735 DeWalt has such a powerful motor for

its chip extraction, When I use it for a short time,

one or two pieces I don’t turn on the dust collector

and let the chips accumulate in the extra line and I turn

on the collector when I am through to clean it out the chips.

Now I have two other cabinets that are going to get the

same pull out shelves.

Nice work!! Good idea to make the shelves pull outs and using full extension drawer slides. They will last a lifetime and are worth the investment. I’d be interested to hear how you feel about the pull out shelves after some time using them. Good many people use a drawer, myself included, and they have pros and cons we are familiar with.

This shop cabinet turned out very nicely and it’s a great addition to your shop.
