Here are three of the reasons I’ve been so busy lately… I carved one of these that was published in Wood Carving Illustrated in Winter 2010, issue 53. Since then, I do several per year – almost all during the pre-Christmas buying season. The third photo shows my most popular one, a Midshipman from the US Naval Academy. These are all basswood, acrylic paints, and stand 5.5 inches tall. There is a dowel in the base, and the rest of the parts slide onto the dowel. Each comes with two hats, and two torsos, so they can be mix-and-match. If you want to carve one, and don’t have that issue of the WCI magazine, let me know and I’ll send you the measurements (or contact Fox Chapel Publishing Customer Service and order a copy of the issue.)
