This isn’t really a wood working project, but rather a tool-related project. I carry my tools away from the shop regularly and decided to make some suede pouches for some of my block planes, shoulder planes, and cabinet scrapers. They are based on ideas that were in a issue of Shop Notes last year. They were very easy to make with a few simple tools available through Tandy Leather. I already had a leather punch. Other than the materials the only tool I bought was a leather sewing tool for under $10. Most of them are just bags that are sewn inside-out and then reversed. The closure is a simple tong. I’ve done leather work before so I had tools to set snaps, but those tools are inexpensive too. I’ve found the pouches very useful in that they protect the tools from dings.

Very nice!
Do you have to be careful about the leather? Doesn’t leather tanned in some ways cause steel/iron to rust??

John,
I’ve heard the same thing about leather and I believe it to be true. I don’t store the planes in the pouches all the time, just for traveling. However, I’ve kept the scrapers in the case for several months and kljpo
