Been awhile since I’ve posted a project but that doesn’t mean I haven’t been making any, actually I’ve been working on quite a few projects at the same time, but finishing none. Mainly I had to rearrange the shop, no, put it this way, I totally rearranged and cleaned out the shop, this becomes a necessity when you purchase a new piece of equipment and work in a small shop, anyhow.

This piece was a custom order to fit on a rather large wall of a cathedral ceilinged room.

Made of solid quarter sawn red oak and with the exception of planning and sizing the wood all joints, dados and dovetails were done with hand tools. Finished with one coat of BLO and two of amber shellac.

Thanks for looking!

Thanks Art,
It was a challenge, it took a lot of time adjusting the fit.

Fantastic piece!

Did you use 4 x lag screws at the top to hold it? It looks like all one piece.

So jealous of the beauty of many of the pieces I see on here. I need to quit being lazy and just jump headfirst into learning the trade. Such a simple but elegant piece.

Thanks LJ’s, this was a fun piece to build, took longer than expected but thats the price when you decide, half way through, to use hand tools for the fit.

It is all one piece, and no on the lags, I used #8 sheetrock screws to mount it to the wall.

It’s a beauty for sure.
