Handgun box made of walnut with maple splines and maple top. Lacquer and wax finish. Combination lock latch. I blued a piece of leather to the plywood bottom. Also made leather straps to hold the handgun and ammo in place.

Extremely well constructed! Mighty fine. What’s your armament? Looks quite healthy? Like the splined miter corners as well as the Maple top

+1 on the very nice. Like the leather straps, and of course the Governor.

Ron, it’s a phenomenal box, workmanship is beautiful, but I have to ask the question. Can you unscrew the hinges and gain access to the gun without having to deal with the combination lock?

Wow Ron. That’s a nice box, and also a very nice CANNON you have in it!

I also wondered about the hinge screws like Jerry did.

Thanks guys.

Handtooler – handgun is a Smith and Wesson Governor with 410 shotgun shells

Jerry & Joe – Unfortunately I used box style hinges that mount on the back – so yes the hinges can be removed from the outside. My goal for the lock was to prevent any visitors, grandnephew, etc from just opening it up. Anyone can get into the box fairly easily if they wanted to if they had a screwdriver, pry bar, etc.

Great looking box well crafted. The mitered corners look perfect and the dark interior color scheme is very fitting for a hand gun. Good job!

Nice, thought that was a judge. Where did you get the combo latch? was it an easy install?

Chuck. The lock is a combination case lock from Rockler. http://www.rockler.com/case-lock
Comes 2 locks per package. Very easy to install. Have to mortise a little for the back of the combination mechanism.
Comes with rivets, but I used some brass screws instead. The rivets aren’t long enough for 3/4” box thickness.
