Pine Scrap Band SawBox in Red

January, 2010—This is a glue-up of pine scraps. It is a small box, about 3×4x3 inches. The red color is from a fabric dye. My daughter and her friends made tie-dye shirts and they had some dye left over, so I tried it on wood. At first I did not think it was going to work because it beaded on the surface. But after a moment it soaked in nicely and evenly. After the dye I followed with three layers of rub-on satin poly. The knob is cut from the top of a small “flag pole”—the kind you get as a souvenir at Medieval Times. The knob is painted with a semi-gloss oil-base paint. The drawer bottom is lined with felt. It was a fun little project.
