This was my attempt at turning a calabash bowl. I liked the results of the last bowl I did, so I wanted to keep experimenting with the milk paint. On the inside of this bowl I used a base coat of black, followed by a coat of red which was distressed with sand paper. I reversed that on the outside of the bowl (base coat of red, followed by a coat of black which was distressed with sand paper). I then put on three coats of wipe on poly and finished it with a coat of paste wax.

Cool. Great idea to reverse the base coats, I need to remember to try that.

Great Job Derek. Love the colour blending, a really stunning result.
Thanks for sharing.

Colouring is very interesting. Those red and dark colours look great.

Beautiful bowl. I really like the colors. I would never have thought of using milk paint like this.
