Hi everyone,
It’s been a while since I did not post but I was busy with turning Christmas gifts.
In the meanwhile I managed to squeeze another “cooperative project” with my friend Alex.
After drawing the plans on sketchup, he helped me select the wood and with all part of the construction. It was a very fun project overall.
Assembly is pretty straight forward with mortise/tenon joinery all around. The thru tenons in the aprons did not really turned as expected (sloppy) so we drove ebony tapered wedges to stiffen the assembly.
After adding the ebony accent, I could not resist the temptation and we turned the handles from ebony pen blanks.
The top was realized around one plank that had a large knot in one edge, by cutting the board around the knot and placing the two segments side by side, the arrangement is pleasing to the (my?) eye. I also need to deeply thank my friend Jerry for letting me use his wonderful drum sander, that have saved us half a day of sanding !
Alex took care of the sanding and finishing : 1 coat of shellac followed by 7 to 10 coats of varnish.
The customer is happy so I guess it did turn out not too bad.
Thanks for watching
PS : if you would be interested by the Sketchup model, please PM me.

Wow, I missed this one before!
Was just looking up projects with walnut and this popped up.
Beautiful piece. I love the top!
