This is a small mallet made from an old oak pallet piece – recycled.
It was in really rough shape & I had to cut it to size & sand it down with a belt sander.
The head is oak & handle is kekatong ahardwood.
After forming the head edges i drilled a hole in the handle top & glued a hickory dowel in it… This secures the head to the handle.
I finished it the black lacing & a leather wrap at the bottom & boiled linseed oil. I also added a cotter pin at the bottom of the handle to keep lacing in place & make it interesting…
The head has some interesting markings
This one is pretty small & lightweight & the smooth handle doesnt have much to grip.
I like the contrasting colors & wood ( oak very well known in USA & kekatong ( pretty unique inUSA )
A fun project .

Nice mallet. Good oak head and I have never heard of kekatong.

Cheers, Jim

Love the look and the craftsmanship that went into this. Great work!
