Plastic hinges broke on both the little treat holders we had for our dog. So, with a little time before the Vikings game today, I started designing on the fly. Ended up with a very serviceable, elegant treat holder for Ragu. Black walnut body and lid with an ebony knob for an accent.

The finish is 1 lb cut shellac and then Myland’s High Build Friction polish.

I got a couple small pieces of ebony from my late brother’s shop leftovers and I was glad to put some of it to a happy use.

The dog has not yet associated the new object to her treats but she’s about as smart as they come and she’ll catch on before halftime of the Vikings game.

Okay, I’m not sure if it’s just because you told me what it was used for….but does anyone else see a dog’s nose when they are staring at the top for the jar???? :) Great looking treat holder. Now I just have to hope my wife doesn’t see it!

Hey, Richard, you’re right. It looks like a Snoopy nose, now that I look at. Must have been an unconscious design choice.

BB1, believe me she has had plenty of treats from it already and just like I predicted she has forgotten all about the old holder and knows when I pick this one up that something tasty is coming.
