Project Information

Finished a playroom in my basement to hold all my 5 year old's toys. There was a weird corner that houses the water turns and sump pumps…only solution I could come up with that I thought would look good was to make it a small little closet. In my opinion, small little closets look weird though. As opposed to tried to hide it, I decided to try to accentuate it.

About 2 years ago I bought about 300 bd ft of the ugliet walnut you have ever seen. A farmer had a walnut tree cut down. The sayer ripped a lot of the wood into 2×4s and 1×6s and left them behind for the farmer. nearly a decade later they were still laying there and I offered him $50 to take it off his field. a day of planing and I ended up with some nice looking lumber!

Made that too. Chunk of plywood painted grey w/ color changing LED lights from Amazon on the back. Definitely the highlight of the room for the 5 year old!

Great door Marcus! I've made a few of these in these in the last year. Love the modern look of this one. Where did you get the track from, and do you like it? I too love that sign! Only I'm not familiar, what is a death star light?

The track was an el cheapo special from ebay…I think it was like $60 for the 6' section and hardware. Their attachment to the wall was terrible…these weird metal wall anchors that really did not work well. Thats part of the reason for the wood behind the track…bumped the door out from the baseboard and gave me a better mounting surface. I also didnt like how the attachments were fixed to the track…wishing there was some flexibility there to get into the studs.

..but for $60, Im not going to complain too much. It operates smooth and will hopefully last a while on this door that doesnt get too much use.

And the death star is from star wars. In the Return of the Jedi movie, they're rebuilding it…sort of an iconic spaceship image to sci fi nerds

What hardware? I have been looking for some functional and high quality hardware for barn doors.

The one my uncle bought makes the bottom hang against the wall.

this is the hardware I purchased:

For a high end install, I probably wouldn't recommend it. For a Kid's playroom and a door that will get very little use, Im ok with it…especially for the price.
