I recently joined LumberJocks and so this is my first official posted project. It’s a bandsaw pen box made out of red oak. I found the pattern here on LumberJocks.
I’m using this to store one of my hand turned wooden pens. I’ve been pen turning for years, but branching out to other projects. The box could easily be used to store other things like jewelry or a pocket knife.
The handle is a piece of walnut, I cut in the shape of a triangle and glued on. I finished the box with a dark Danish oil—2 coats.
The only thing I wish I would have done differently was start the inside cut by following the direction of the grain. Then the cut seam would have been much less visible.

What a neat project to go along with your other projects … I gotta tell you that I made about 20 or so band saw boxes before discovering that entering with the grain works so well … The learning curve you know …
Each BS box you make will be a bit better than the last one … so with your head start, you will be making some really outstanding boxes ‘cause your ahead of the game already.

Thanks! Feel free to borrow the idea. I created a full tutorial over on my site, but I got the pattern here on this forum.

Thanks and I look forward to making more boxes. Although, I think I would like to step up to a full size bandsaw. I did this one on my bench top bandsaw. Even with a new blade, it felt like the bench top may not have the power I need. Or it could always be the operator LOL

Thanks for the comments! I’ve been on the IAP site for several months now. A great site for pen turners, I agree. I started out mainly turning pens, but now I want expand into other woodworking projects.
