BETTY BOOP - Candy Boot

Well I’m slowly gnawing away my supply of lam beam – only 15 lineal feet of a 5×5 lam beam post left to go!
Had to try a ladies dancing shoe similar to the one Betty Boop scampered around in doing her cartoon. Then Minnie Mouse made the shoe famous.
The laminations carve easy and the wood took the natural stain to my liking.
Hope you enjoy this creation – Boo Boop Bee Boop!!! Now get that song out of your head! Cheerio!

That is so cool. When the beam is gone, just laminate up more plywood and you’re back in business!
cheers, Jim

The house must be full! Careful or the other 1/2 may give you the “boot”.

I like this one well.

I forgot to mention in my remarks that the boot should really be called ‘candy boat’. Just imagine when you have guests over and you serve up your favourite candy in a Betty Boop boot! I can assure you that the candy will go like wildfire!

I saw the Betty Boop label, looked at the shoe and said to myself ….. OK but it reminds me more of Minnie Mouse.
But then as you point out she just made them famous.
Well Roman, you are making them famous again!

Cool

Boot, boat, bowl, makes no difference when it looks this good!
I have never worked with any laminated lumber but it looks like it offer some intriguing options.

Questiin, do the laminations alternate grain directions like plywood?

Oldnovice, the grain directions are alternated which makes for some interesting problems when carving. If your carving bits are a bit used you will get into some burn marks as is evident on the boot. The wood species I was told are spruce and fir. The fir laminates are added for strength especially when the wood is going to be used as a structural beam or post. In the pictures of the boot the fir stains a blushing pink.
So speaketh, the Bootman!
