Hi there, all “wood people”! :))
Here is a bar stool I made a couple years ago. I was inspired by Michael Stolworthy’s “Serous Bar Stool” 3D concept back then (at a time it only existed as a 3D model).
As I was hand–shaping the stool (after M&Ts were done), almost against my will, the stool would develop a striking resembles to the “Serous Bar Stool” (an aluminum stool, pic 4).
So, I contacted Michael (http://www.msmd-studio.com) and told him the whole story. He said, he was flattered and very surprised that someone would pull off one of his craziest and complicated shapes in wood using traditional methods… And the irony, I created that shape in real world before Michael Stolworthy developed his 3D printing procedure for the aluminum Serous Bar Stools! :)
All comments are welcomed!
I recently opened a youtube channel where I’ll soon show how to shape these type of M&Ts: CrazyRussianWoodShop https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCYNOkVS7B5_6A3GgNq7TtrQ

p.s. Ally Mello (an official Miss Makita 2016) posed on the stool at the Woodworking Show 2016 in Baltimore, MD in January after it won an Attendees’ Favorite Woodworking Project prize there:))

Thanks! Yes, it was quite the process… I did the rough shaping outside using my grinder with a carving attachment–– the back yard looked like it snowing earlier (it produced the grainy sawdust that looked like snow a little) in the middle of the summer…:)

That is the most beautiful stool I’ve ever seen! Striking looks, beautiful wood. Really great work.
It looks like it belongs in a museum.
