{Forgive the bad photography}
This box is made entirely out of pallet wood. The top has some nice spalting and the bottom is a nice thick piece of something that resembles walnut. The sides are a nice shade of olive and the whole thing is finished with pure tung oil. I didn’t know when I made it that it would be a medicine box. It just turned out that way after my wife stole it. The half lid increases the storage space of the box because it turns one storage space into three. The back half under the lid is for the least used stuff. The front half without a lid is for the more often used medicine bottles and since the lid is missing, isn’t limited by height. The back half on top of the lid is for anything that doesn’t get put inside the box.

I was reminded by a kind remark the other day that my projects were only the ones I made as I was just starting out. My wife and I are now a little more experienced and I’ll be trying to catch up on our posting. No excuse but, health issues have a way of making the memory slip. ;-)

That’s pallet wood? very nicely treated and nicely put together. I really like your joints. You and your wife do this? That’s way above average. I’m gonna run it by my wife. She will retire from 30 yrs teaching soon. That’s gotta be real satisfying. Thanks for sharing.

I am always surprised in what they make pallets out of. Sometimes its bland looking stuff, other times it made out of some nice looking hardwood. I like using reclaimed materials in my projects, it cuts down on expense, and it adds a certain unique quality to the project. Nice Dovetails.

Thanks for the kind words folks. Skylark, my wife and I enjoy working in the shop just about more than I can tell you. She will not let me run the planer anymore because that’s her job. She also enjoys sanding more than I do. I think these two jobs appeal to her because each brings out the beauty in the wood in its own way and she loves that. My youngest daughter is always on tung oil detail too. Rich, I got these pallet wood pieces from a guy who imported tile from south of the border somewhere. You can see it from the road when the pallet wood isn’t pine white. A dark pallet has caused me to whip a U in traffic many times. Anyway, I’m not allowed to collect anymore wood until I use some of it up.
