I had some scraps left over from my nightstand builds, and I decided to build a jewelry box to match the dresser it will eventually (hopefully) live on. Initially, it was going to be a simple box, then my wife got involved – “well, it’ll have compartments, right?”, and “it’ll have a removable tray, right?”, etc…

I made the tray by laminating walnut and maple strips together into a solid chunk, then routing out the bits in the middle using a templating bit and a plywood template I threw together.

The finish is MinWax WipeOn Poly, to match the nightstands (and future dresser).

Don’t you just love those wife directed projects. I have experienced a few of those. Well, somebody certainly had the right idea. Outstanding project and welcome to Lumberjocks.
