The larger of the two frames was a commissioned piece as a Mother’s Day gift for 2008. To allow the client to see what type of frame I had in mind I created the single, smaller “test” frame which eventually went into our guest room.
Both are made primarily from walnut with faced “splines” out of spalted cherry. Both are finished with a mildly stained Danish oil, sanded lightly and then rubbed with lemon oil. The smaller holds an 8×10 photo – the large holds four 6×6 inch tiles. Both are around an inch thick.
The only real challenge with the larger one was making the crosspieces match perfectly. I only had to replace one of the pieces ‘cause it was cut about a millimeter too short (I think it became a bookmark ;-)
The client must have liked it because I later did two more frames for him (projects to appear later on LJ) :-)
Thanks for viewing and Enjoy!

Love the picture frames. As far as I’m concerned, nothing doesn’t look better made out of walnut. That cross piece looks tricky. Good work.
