Finally finished… this was for Xmas ?
I did not make this box by myself.. it was a collaboration with a good friend and Master Box Maker Col…. he was the one who first encouraged me to try wood working and then he stopped for a number of years and then we met up again and I rekindled his passion for woodworking ….Now he is passing on his skill in boxmaking to me.. and I sand his cutting boards on my drum sander.. good symbiotic relationship… with Ken [LJ Kenscraft] we are the three amigos. lol….
I am posting this because the design is not one I have seen before [correct me if I am wrong] and I would like you to see what Col can do..I am very proud to have helped on this one.

This box is made from English Silky Oak… probably around 100 years old..

The lid pivots on dowel pins and does not require any stays to remain open… Lined with Felt glued in with PVA..
The lid has a soft close due to the snug fit… and the air pressure inside the box… makes a slight shoosshh sound when closing… very cool.
I did however do the finishing work. 6 coats of wipe on poly…[Minwax]
Please let me know what you think of my mate Col’s box.

Well I ain’t to crazy about the color you guys chose on the inside there. Nothing wrong with it, just isn’t the color I really care for. Choosing colors is a tough one, the ones you may like others hate and the ones you hate others think it’s beautiful so go figure, but other than that, I think it looks awsome Love the wood grain, finish and style. REALLY liked the pin hinges very cool. Thanks for sharing.

nice wood…and funny—-one of the things I thought was that I LIKED the color of the inside—goes well with the wood…

Nice job Larry. Do you have any problems with the dowel pin when the humidity changes?

OOOOHHHH good question???? What about humidity? Or are the holes drilled out slightly larger to allow for that?

Good question… I will ask the master when he comes over later.
I will be showing him to post and I am sure he will be chuffed about all the good comments.

Hey now there is an idea that Jim’s got, make them a little bigger, put some file holders in them with some latches and a handle and sell them for the big bucks to the suit types.
