I made the trip up to Salem to the place where I have previously picked up salvaged wood (see desk project and bookshelf). This time the wood came from a structure built in 1908 and looks to be all Doug Fir with one piece of something else (possibly a pine of some type). The secret with working salvaged wood is finding the balance between square cuts and joints and preserving the character of the wood. I sanded it all down to where it was smooth enough to use as a table, but still had the circular saw marks I so cherish. Then 3-6 coats of poly and she was done.
I plan on making two benches with backs for either side, but that will have to wait about a month. Thanks for taking a look.

That’s a great looking farmhouse table! I like the big, beefy look of it—and really like all the mill marks!

Awesome ~!
I love the saw cuts.
I had client this spring that I built bed and nightstand for her. I used old barn board. I wanted the saw cuts left. SHE finished it herself…..insisted that it has tobe baby bottom smooth. Lost a lot of the old patina after she was done !
I kept telling her dont sand ir to much, use more coats of poly ? She was one of those that knew everything !
AND
I never got paid !

Just curious. How did you put top boards together ?
Dowels ?
Biscuits
Tongue and groove ?
Just butted and glued ?
Thanks.
