I have moved on to higher level pen turning already and this is one of the first Classic Fountain Pens that I turned out. A friend was visiting the shop (garage) and I was showing off my new toy (mini lathe). I was running through the explanation for the pen making process and of course showed him my bag of pen blanks. One of them caught his eye so I took note and turned him a pen from his favorite blank. Of course he did not know that I was doing this. Now that I have snapped a few pictures it will be on its way to my friend’s desk.

Turned from the “Purple Haze” acrylic pen blank which has ribbons of white and red swirled in it. I don’t remember which parts supplier it is from, either PSI or Wood Turners Catalog. The pen kit is the “Classic 24k gold” Fountain Pen kit from PSI. Finished to 12,000 grit and polished with 20/20 plastic compound. I did learn from a previous acrylic pen turning that painting the pen tubes will drastically improve the appearance of the pen. With some of the acrylics they get a bit translucent which can be really beautiful, if you can’t see the brass pen tube through it. With this pen I pre-painted the brass tubes black before gluing them in.

Now onto the next pen. I am still trying to turn a “Dovetailed” pen as noted in one of my blog series. If I ever get that to work I will post pictures of that project too.

Great job!
I have done pens too and enjoy it a lot. Although I have not posted any on my projects page. But when I do finish some new ones, I will be sure to post them.

Again. Great Job!

Very nice. I recently got the bug. So over the weekend I ordered some supplies and am going to give a simple slim-line a shot. Thanks for posting.
