I got a large walnut crotch from my cousin quite a few years ago. I intended to make a clock with it and had to wait while I found some other materials I needed to go with it. It took some time but I was finally able to get the 3/8” square brass bars that I needed. After some work I came up with this. The brass bars are inset in some stop dados. The finish is brushed on lacquer. Was able to use many new old tools that I have gotten over the last couple of years so it looks like my collection is paying off. I got an old Craftsman drill press specifically for boring out the pocket to accept the clock mechanism but even a 15 1/2” drill press couldn’t reach the center of this 18” diameter slab. It is also about 2” thick. Going to have to hang it in a stud.
Had to add some more pictures with better lighting.
