I made this top for my nephew for Christmas. It’s made of canary wood. I had a board that was about 1/2” thick by about 6” wide that I cut and glued into a block to turn on the lathe. The spin assister is made of glued, laminated canary wood that I turned as well. I still want to make a small peg of wood to attach to the end of the string to hold when pulling it (I didn’t think to do that initially). It works pretty well…spins for over 5 minutes on a good pull!

Brian I agree. This is going on the to-do list. Great job. Love the woods and the shape sure seems to work. 5 MINUTES!!! WOW. Mine only spine for about 1 to 1/2 on a good spin. (but they are finger spin – no string)

Keep up the great work.

-- Scrap Wood's the best...the projects are smaller, and so is the mess!
