There are a few little details left. For my woodworking needs this will be a great addition. There are plenty of ideas, plans, and everything in between to assist you in making up your mind about what style, look, function, specs you can have. Chris Schwartz’s books were a great help. The top is attached to the base with 1/2” x 4” long lag screws. The base is held together with 3/8” x 4” hex bolts and nuts allowing for some mobility if needed. There was no rush so I took my time over this past fall and winter to do the majority of work. The top is 8/4 hard Maple. The base is Douglas Fir 4×4’s. As many have said before me; build it bigger if you can, you can never have enough clamps.

Oh yeah, almost forgot; hand planing that top is a workout. An Eclipse 10” vise will greatly come in hand when I need an additional hold on a work piece. This bench is over three hundred pounds, so when I need to cut or chisel a piece the only thing that will move will be the tool into the wood. The days of having to use a complicated setup or positioning my work piece on saw horses is over. Thankfully!

Good luck with your builds!

Looks great. Hopefully mine will turn out as nice as yours. Are you planning to put any planing stops or dog holes?

Brian, The dog holes are finished. That picture was taken yet. Bench is in the middle of a current project.
