My second attempt at carving. ( the first is the tiny guy in the first picture) I love cottonwood bark for how soft and easy to carve it is, but it also separates in layers very easily if you’re not careful. Eh, live and learn right? I used spray on high gloss lacquer for the finish but should have gone with a satin or matte finish as this looks too shiny to me. :)

Very Nicely done, and it looks like your desire to let your “inner artist out to play” is working for you.
The cottonwood bark is quite fibrous, as you mentioned, but this piece shows that you have the patience, delicate touch, and sharp tools to produce a good result.
The mounting is also a nice touch.
Looking forward to see your next Wizard. ;)

You call it “Old” I call it ageless. You call it a “Wizard” I call it the spirit inside the tree that you set free. You call it an “attempt at carving” I call it a work of art. As the immortal Bard wrote – “A rose by any other name would smell as sweet”. It is only a matter of words.
And a dragon is next? Cool! Can’t wait to see it!
Thanks for sharing.
