I noticed that turners sometime name their pieces, so I decided to name this “Bowl number 3“ for obvious resons. The more astute will notice that bowl number 2 is not posted …that is because on the final sweep with a scraper tool it shattered ! Luckily no injuries and a lesson in restraint for me. I sort of knew it could happened but man did it frighten me. I was glad I was alone in the shop, pieces of walnut went flying in all directions. I am starting to enjoy the lath, it is a great way of using left over lumber. I am contemplating a segmented (laminated) piece next.

Thanks for looking.

Fine looking bowl! I also have a number 3. Evidently, mine is the ugly #3 of the family.

Turners rule number 123877900: that “just one more pass” will destroy the piece. Every time.

Hope have a face shield and use it.

Very nice. This is encouraging to me as I am just starting out turning. I’m expecting mt new Barracuda chuck to be delivered tomorrow.

What is the diameter of this bowl?

Great bowl. Nice to see that the explosion didn’t scare you away from the lathe. Allways use caution, face shield is a must.

Segmented pieces are a great way to express yourself. You have a lot more design leway and you use smaller pieces of wood. Of course if it explodes like my last segmented piece, they end up even smaller. haha

Good luck on your comeing pieces. Hope to see more soon.

Keep it up.

Great job, Welcome to the Lathe addiction, a very versatile instrument of creation and destruction. Glad #2 didn’t get you.

Thanks guys
Mark;yes I have a face shield and was using it when to break happened. and I agree with the rule.

Charlie; the bowl is from a 7×7 8 1/4 blank so about 6 3/4 in diameter.

Scrappy; I learned a long time ago than one must get back on the horse right away after a fall. Thanks.

Andrew; the first step to any addiction is admitting you have a problem LOL.

It is too cold to do anything in the shop today -25 C or – 13 F in Toronto! Got to get some sleep I am on nights for the next 72 hours. Talk to you guys next year.
