This boot came from an end cut of a birch log that was slated for the dumpster. It was severely checked but I could not let it go without trying to make it into a reasonable sculpture and let it grace someone’s mantle. With it’s upturned toe cap I called it “PUG”.
Birch (bereza) is a nice wood to carve and it finishes well. After sanding I applied a product from Germany, registered trademark OSMO, polyx-oil, clear. This is an organic compound and feels like soft silk when applied to wood. You just want to keep on touching the boot and fondle it!
This boot was made for Sasha so that he could dance the night away with his beautiful girl. I can hear him stepping it out now! Go for it, Sasha!!!! YAAA CHA CHA!!!

Great job. Really like how you left the toe…natural and rough. The rest of the boot looks very very smooth. Almost like satin.

Roman, may I ask what kept you from doing the obvious, and carving some toes sticking out the front?

Roman your carvings are amazing! I really like Marks idea of having some toes sticking out. It may look creepy but interesting!

Hi Mark, At the moment I saw the ‘pug’ face in the boot as I planned the carving, I felt that it was adequate and that extra details would not add to the boot.
I had considered droopy eyes but stopped where I felt comfortable. Perhaps a lack of creative courage.
