I made this arts and crafts style grandfather clock a couple years ago. All my life I wanted a tall case clock. When I got really interested in the arts and crafts style I just merged the two ideas together. This is the only project I have built using puchased plans. This is a peice that Norm built on the New Yankee Workshop. I am specially proud of the large cove molding at the top. That was made from scratch on the table saw. I had seen Norm use that technique on another project and I didnt beleive it would really work. I didnt have a clue as to the angle or anything but it came out nicely. As usual most of the wood is pallet wood, even the glass came from old windows out of a dumpster. I didnt put a real movement into it. The price is a bit more than I thought it would be. Maybe someday.

Nice clock. You’re right, the movements are kind of pricey

I just completed the casework and am presently finishing the clock with a transtint red mahogany dye following up with a walnut stain. I also installed hardwood shelves in the lower case so i can display some platters and heirloom boxes that i made.
I will install led light strips above each shelf. I will post photos of the completed clock with display items in a few weeks. I am installing quartz movements in lieu of the mechanical movements as well….i will attempt to install 2 quarts movements into the mission dial….one for the hour and minute hands and a second movenent for the small minute / second dial ..

Have your say...
