I got a new lathe a few days back. I goofed around with a few chess pieces out of old 2×4 I had laying around, and my mother and grandmother found out. My grandmother asked me to fix her chair. Well, the new spindle didn’t turn out perfect (I only had a crappy cell phone picture to go by), but, I’m happy overall. I believe I used a different type of wood (dowel from Home Depot). Maybe it was oak? Either way, the pieces don’t match 100%, but she’s happy she has a working chair! The finish was 2 coats of poly with a healthy coat of furniture polish.

I need to work on my coves and beads. They look good going from one way, but they’re not the same going the other. Still, I’d call my first real project a success! Feel free to critique.

I’d say you did very very well with the coves and beads. Nicely done.

Nice turning, looks like a great match to the other leg.
