This is my second attempt at a lidded box from a spalted beech blank i had. It’s approx 3.5” wide and 6” tall, i cant see myself using this timber again for a box like this. I found it very difficult to get a tight fitting joint as the wood is so fragile and flaky, it didn’t leave a very smooth service inside despite having freshly sharpened tools. Its finished in friction polish with an Iroko finial on top .

Nice box. If you can stabilize the soft parts in the wood in some way it can make turning alot easier and you can get better cuts that way but you did a good job anyhow.

That is really sharp looking. I just love spalted wood.

I like spalted wood projects. There are so many different ‘natural’ patterns.Nice cup.
