After the success of the serving tray I made for my wife a few months back,
I wanted to make something for the table to hold napkins. I used some of the extra pieces so it would match the tray, this is what I came up with. By the time I finished it became a Napkin holder/spice caddy/conversation piece.
The wood is Padauk,Walnut,Yellow heart, soft maple and some Tiger maple. I wanted the tiger maple upright pieces to tie in with the color of the base so I lightly wiped on a little cherry danish oil to bring out some red and then went over that with some natural Danish oil over the entire project, then sealed it with three coats of acrylic spray. I like the way it came out, it’s a very practical piece , and she’s happy so all is well. The uprights are attached with mortise and tenon and I used my hollow chisel mortise machine to make the square indentations for the salt shakers.

I’ve been pondering one of these. I had always envisioned the napkins stored on edge, lying flat is so much better.

Great design!

The tray is stunning. I looked at the link you provided and I’m inspired to try my hand at making one.

Thanks for sharing.
