These are some boxes I made for Christmas presents for my family. These are a spin-off of Andy's designer boxes he made for his grand kids. His are sculpted and shaped, which I would have liked to do with these, but I just did not have the time. Its always so busy this time of year.

The boxes are made from padauk, quilted maple, brazilian cherry, olive wood, black walnut and a small ebony detail on one of the handles. I made the two handles on the padauk boxes, but I really wanted something silver against the padauk lids so those handles are store bought. It kinda felt like cheating, but I do like silver on red. The bottoms are lined with green vinyl.

They are about 6 1/2”x 4 1/2” and 2 3/4” high. I finished them with wipe on poly which Andy suggested and is my first time using. Thanks for looking and any comments/suggestions/critique are appreciated. Thanks again Andy!

Nice work, I really like the look of the 2 quilted maple boxes. The contrasting lids really set it off.

Brad, these are gorgeous boxes. You chose a nice set of woods and individualizing each box makes it unique. These are going to be great gifts.

Thanks a lot LJ’s! I really needed the encouragement. My last project, which is sitting in the corner of my shop, didn’t turn out so well. I think it will make a nice box for holding screws.

Fantastic herd of boxes. Lots of great color combo’s. They say it is easier to make more then one at a time, after this group, what do you think?

Keep it up.

Thanks again for all the kind words.
Scrappy- I wouldn’t say it was easier, but it definitely wasn’t difficult. I just made kind of an assembly line and tried to be efficient.
bigike- yeah, I would’ve liked to have shaped them. Next year, I will be sure to give myself a lot more time to do what I want. I still have a lot more to do before Christmas.
