Painter's Small Canvas Easel

I just shipped out two stands to a friend who paints on small, thin canvases. The stands were designed to accommodate the 8” x 10” canvases she uses, but also accept up to 11” x 14” material. The one shown here is made from red oak. The other (not shown) is made from cherry. I used a shop made jig to build them.

These were custom made to hold my friend’s unframed canvases. Future builds will have an adjustable tray to accommodate both canvases and framed portraits.

Very nice and simple design, I bet your friend will like it. I also made one very simple few years ago. It’s on my projects list. In fact, this project has the most views of all my projects, surprisingly.

Thanks, Ivan. I had built a prototype last year out of soft wood. After putting it to use for a time, I made some modifications to get them to where these are now. I wanted a simple design, because in the end she will want the paintings to be the focus and most of the glory would be hidden anyway. The jig makes these easy to build.

Thanks, Lee. The painting is one of hers, given to me as a gift. Tit-for-tat warranted that I make a gift in return. :)

Thanks. The recipient of the two stands contacted me today: she received them and loves them both. My day is complete. :)
