Cedar Chest Dovetailed With a special twist on the lid.

I made this last summer for my son’s new apartment. He needed storage and a coffee table. So I had some cedar.
The lid has a routed groove underneath to prevent spills from winding up going into the cabinet. It’s just a groove.
The joints are hand dovetailed , big honkers.
I added maple bread board ends to the lid to stabilize it, and keep it straight. Cedar will break easily.
I also added the Rockler torsion hinges to avoid having stays on the sides.
I added a tray for his remote control and electronics and whatever.

During the build I ran out of the cedar, I think it was spanish cedar, and my stock of Red Cedar took over. So to finish the cabinet, I had to use dyes on the spanish cedar to make it appear more like the red cedar. I did not go as far as needed, but I thought better to be under than over.. So I was happy with the match on the outside.
Finish is Shellac with dye, and followed by Lacquer to protect from alcoholic drinks.
