I made a batch of 5 solid wood box jointed cajon drums (wood box peruan drums).
Maple and walnut
50X30X30 cm / 20” X 12” X 12”
TBIII glue
I made a comprehensive video showing all the process, watch here: https://youtu.be/CaK3ZMjnEkU
Box joints made with my screw advanced box joined jig (plans by matthias wandel from woodgears.ca)
I outsourced the finish to a local finisher, and he did the final sanding and the finish (2 coats, 30% gloss).
considering my very small shop and that it is inside my house, that was a life saver for me. and above all that, it was very quick and not expensive.
Photos were taken by Itay Benit at his studio.
Thanks,
Elyasaf Shweka

Hi,
Madhim.
Does it sounds and feel better because of the solid wood?
What was the price of the finish?
Where did you source the internal hardware?
Thanks,
Kfir

“I don’t wanna work, I just wanna bang on my drum all day”. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZclddLcOYYA Very nice. I’ll bet that is one happy kiddo.

Elyasaf, very nice project. I enjoyed to see in the video, how the Cajon looks like inside and how your jig for making the Dovetails is working.
