The shape of this wooden box was inspired by diatoms, a common class of algae which have a wide variety of interesting shapes. The box is made from South American Mahogany and American Black Walnut.
This box measures approximately 5.5” (width) x 2 1/4” (deep) x 2 1/2” (height)
It took a few tries to get the cover to fit just right. The finish is hand rubbed poly and wax.

Very unique, at first I thought of a clam, then I read your post. Beautiful box and great craftsmanship.

Good look and an interesting design. Willing to bet yours is the only project in here with that inspiration.

Beautiful box, just right for holding a string of pearls. (I could have sold a lot of these when I worked at the jewelry store.) Thanks for posting.
