Nice looking items Chuck—if my geometry hasn’t totally failed me 8 sides is an octogon

Thanks Jeff. I was able to re-title my project in time. I’ve been working with something in the hexagonal shape and that word seemed to have been etched into my brain. Haha!

I’ve seen that shape somewhere !!! Thanks again.
Are the sides only glued together or did you use some mechanical “helpers”?
As already mentioned, this is a very nice set. Congrats.
Best,
Serge

Hi Serge,
The sides are held together with just yellow glue. Since the body is also glued to the bottom piece, the structural integrity is supreme. I made a gluing mistake with one of the octagon pump dispensers (I glued all the pieces together before I put the pump bottle in it!). I tried to knock off the sides / top or bottom with no success, even though the gluing time was like 15 minutes or so. Eventually I had to saw off the top of that piece and it became one of the several pen holders – not all was lost, I guess.

You proved it againg Chuck, in woodworking there are no mistakes, there are only new designs and new opportunities. Again, your creativity was involved and you gain a nice desk set instead of firewood. Not everyone sees potential in scraps!
Best,
Serge
