199X’s Rainbow brand playset I purchased used and very weathered/neglected in 2010.

I (and my parents) sanded it down to bare wood and stained it before reassembling.

Made of Redwood but I replaced just a few pieces that were beyond repair with cedar.

It would’ve looked beautiful with just a clear finish, but for long term durability and UV protection, I decided to stain it. Finished with Sherwin Williams Deckscapes stain, color Redwood. Six years later and the initial stain is only now needing another coat.

One tarp was missing and the other couldn’t be cleaned well enough so I replaced both. They are difficult/impossible to keep clean, but the replacements have been durable at least.

This playset has lasted so much better than the pressure treated wood (or metal for that matter) ones available from the big box stores would have. Because I bought used and did the work myself, I ever managed to save some money.

great job on the restoration.
Thanks for sharing.

-- Bob, Western Australia, The Sun came up this morning, what a great start to the day. Now it's up to me to make it even better. I've cut this piece of wood 4 times and it's still too damn short.

Have your say...
