I made this project as a challenge to see how fast it could be made. It took about 6 hours to be pit together and put the finish on. I took a piece of birdseye maple and resawed it and cut my pieces out with a handsaw to get the best 4 corner match.

I cut my miters, cut a dado for the birch plywood and glued it up. After 45 minutes i cut the slot for the walnut miter splines and glued them in and waited another 45 minites. After they were dry i cut them off of sanded them flush and did a stain to make the grain show up better then sanded most of that off. I used 2 coats of shellac to finish it then waxed and buffed it and its done.

Man, that’s warp speed compared to my boxes! Great looking valet!

Nice box, Andy. I love that birdseye. Is that wood native where you live?

Cheers, Jim
