I actually made this a while ago for my son. He planned to add a neck, bridge, electronics, etc to it. I visited him in NC this past October and found that he’s a lot like his dad. I.e. his ambitions and reality aren’t always in sync. I’m sure it’ll get done at some point, but I thought I’d post this anyway. It’s made from figured black walnut, curly maple and padauk. This finish is just a few coats of clear lacquer. My son will add more coats (hopefully) later.

Wow, that’s a beauty. I like the wood combos as well.

Sir, I know it can sometimes be difficult between fathers and sons, I have two of my own, and I might be speaking out of place but I also know he Loves you more than it shows and wants that to happen, the completion of the instrument. How magnificent would that be, to have a guitar to hand down through the generations that Dad Picken5 and myself made together. One day it will be. What you have created, is Beautiful. You have a great shop and an even greater talent for woodworking. Your son might be a little apprehensive because of your capabilities. Doubtful to touch your masterpiece, it truly is a stunning piece of workmanship. Maybe if the two of you worked on it together, it could happen sooner and not later.
I watched some professional guitar makers doing some of this type stuff on YouTube and it gets involved. Does he have a shop too? Maybe get him to come to your shop and you can knock it out together over an extended weekend. Watch that YouTube video first so you know sort of what you need… have fun, just sayin’

Thanks for the feedback, Mark. I’d love the idea of completing that guitar together — and I’m sure he would also. Sadly, its tough for us to get together. I live in Kansas and he lives in North Carolina. Distance doesn’t make impossible to do that, but it’s certainly more difficult. Your kind thoughts and words are most appreciated.
