First box I made with corner splines. I had some really small bloodwood and walnut scraps left over from another project, and a good bit of red oak, so I decided to make a box. the corners are mitered, and both the top of the box and the lid are rabbeted to fit together. I finished it with some spray lacquer and lined the inside with felt. I like the way it looks, but I think on the next one I’ll give the lid a little more overhang.
Thanks for looking!

Looks Good. I like either no overhang or an appreciable amount. Still a good box.

Sam, Nice job! The finish looks fine, and the wood is beautiful. I like the grain. Beware the fumes of spray-on finish. I don’t see the felt. The contours of the top and the bottom don’t match. That is different.
I like the splines and think they add to the look and strength of the box…but then I would. Have you tried adding hinges yet? You can also size piano hinges to fit your box. Keep boxing and keep posting.

Great looking box, I also like a little overhang, and if no overhang, then a handle on lid, just my 2 cents.

I didn’t get a picture of the box after I put the felt in. I have done hinges on some others but I just did this one with materials I had on hand. A little handle on the top would have been a nice touch, I’ll keep that in mind for future boxes.
