I have been working on this koi theme for a while and decided to expand the canvas a bit and include two lily pads and a boarder.
The box is acacia with mitered joints and curly maple miter keys. The koi is set in wavy maple w/dyed veneers. The top and bottom are figured mahogany.
The koi lost his first eye somewhere on my shop floor, but he was fitted with a new and better eye. The boarder is reverse diamond mahogany. Enjoy!

Good looking box David. Your marquetry is spot on and the quilted maple does a great job simulating water.
I feel your pain on the lost eye….. I have spent my share of time scouring the floor for tiny pieces….
Thanks for posting

WOW that is beautiful. A box I would rather hang on my wall than use as a box. Awesome.
