Reclaimed pine and (probably) spruce. I found a cool base and painted it, leaving this colored strip near the top. The stripes on top are maple and poplar. I bought a lift kit for the top – it was easy to install and is pretty sturdy. I added some wood under the top in the middle as a counter weight when the top is lifted.
Edit 1/27/2016 – I added end pieces to the boards and relacquered it at the suggestion of my wife!

Nice job. I never would have thought of the counter weight until I opened it the first time, put some stuff on it, and watched it tip over.

Thanks guys! It was lots of fun – except for the part where I had to wait 3 weeks for the handles to arrive – and came out nicely.
