My daughters split into two bedrooms from one and my wife donated their single beds to a local charity. There was a bed for my oldest daughter but my younger daughter had to make do with an air mattress while I made her a new bed, which she did for 5 months. The design came from Robert Spangler’s bed that he submitted for a FWW article on 6 ways to make a bed. The bed is made from walnut with the headboard being made with tigerwood and wenge. I’m pretty slow but a very satisfying project to make. Lots of chances to use my hand tools. I used my tablesaw and thickness planer but the rest was with hand tools. The finish is ambre shellace followed by dewaxed shellac followed by original waterlox and the topcoats of satin waterlox.

Very cool bed, lots of walnut, great detail on headboard. Great build.

That’s a great looking bed—I love the Asian look of it! I’m sure your daughter loves it!

Very nice looking project. That first photo really shows it from a great angle. It just has that ‘look’ that I like.
