This was an interesting project. The pen blank is made from resin encased coffee beans. It’s a very tricky blank to turn because the beans are extremely brittle and chip out very easily. It was done slowly and with a very gentle touch! Following 30 seconds of turning I would turn off the lathe and coat the blank with CA to reinforce the blank. I would then let the CA dry thoroughly on it’s own without accelerator. I would then turn for another 30 seconds. The process took hours to get the blank shaped to the right size. I then sanded to 6000 grit and applied several coats of polish. The pen still smells like coffee through the polish and best of all, my shop now smells like Starbucks! Finally into the light tent for some photos of the finished product. Yes I was drinking coffee during all this :-)
