Well, this is a feeder that I made for the greedy little finches ‘cuz I spent about half my day refilling one sock. I feed the finches, the finches feed the sharp-shinned hawks. It all works out. The feeder hangs just outside my office window and it’s spectacular to watch the hawks catch the finches. The hawks only bumped into the window once; they’re quick learners!

I’ll try and get another snapshot from the side pretty soon.

That’s a cool idea! I don’t have any hawks, but lots of finches that love those hard to fill socks. That thistle seed sure isn’t cheap, so your idea is great for getting it all into the sock. I will look forward to seeing the other picture you’re going to post soon. Thanks for the idea.

Nice to watch the birds outside of the window.

LOL, you’re right up my alley. I used to feed the birds but it got too expensive. I loved watching for the hawks to come around and keep the birds on their toes. Love the raptors!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good design, cool project.

So you built a hunting feeder for birds? Nice construction for sure.

We’ve got red tailed (I think they are Red Tailed) Hawks that hunt the bayou behind the house. There is a BIG one that likes to perch in my big red oak tree in the yard until we come outside… Magnificent to watch them fly…

I’d feel sorry for the finches, but then again… No.
