Looks great, Bill. I’ve made tongue drums before… they’re lots of fun but impossible to tune properly. Here’s a picture of my large one (I’ll make a project page for it later):

Great looking drum, I look forward to see your project. Where did you find the plans for a large double drum. Love the added looks on the corners.

Very cool project, I’ve seen some that were in tune that sold for a lot of $$$.

Hey Bill. I started out just copying the pattern from an existing drum I found somewhere online (I can’t remember where), then I went into a graphic editing program and changed the tongue areas a bit to try and tune it ahead of time (which didn’t work at all, unfortunately). Here is a form post from another site with my original prototype tongue drum and my crude plans for this bigger one at the bottom of the page.

I am in the process of building my first tongue drum, and if it goes well, more to follow, but any hints you could give would be well appreciated. what do you finish it with? do you finish the inside to have the sound bounce better? I’ve got 3/16 birch ply for the bottom…should it be hardened with mineral spirits or some other kind of liquid before final staining? would it sound better if bottom was on table or ground rather than on ‘feet’? i’ve heard nails are bad…even pinner nails? see what I mean about any hints you could have? i appreciate your time and experienced!
