this box is avocado wood with some more of my manzinata root stash.( i love both of these woods, they are easy to work with and are good looking). the reason i say experimental is i tried a lot of new things ,first the lid i normally dowel the 2 or 3 pieces this one i used a spline,i also tried a double key with the mitered corners , and on the lid and the bottom i tried a epoxy and saw dust inlay. i liked all of the new things but not necessarily
all on the same piece. this box is 10×8 x 4

please let me know what you think, i love feed back good or bad.

Cool box for sure, and surprisingly nice. Each view brings something new. This is great creativity. This is the first time I see a spline showing from a glue up that brings so much ‘interest’. This is a winner in term of creativity.

Nice to see that there are folks out there who don’t shy away from being different.

Still, very nice build.

Keep it up.

Very cool box. So unusual that it breaks all the rules!!
I particularly like the inside of the box.

Thanks for a posting an “experiment”. Too many times I feel like people are just trying to out-do the next guy, but this really says “I tried something new, but don’t know how it is going to turn-out.” I like the whimsical first glance impression, but the more you look, the more the craftsmanship comes out. Great job!!

I like it just the way it is. A conversation piece for woodworkers and non-woodworkers alike.
Might I ask how you did the inlay on the bottom of the top & the top of the bottom?

Before I clicked on the “zoom” I thought your box was sticking its tongue out at me. Looks like a box from a Tolkien tale. Maybe Bilbo’s ring box?
