A couple of months before Christmas last year my daughter (who lives in a different State)sent me a link to a picture of a desk she really liked asking what I thought and if it was a good price. I’ve since lost the link, but the desk had a modern flair to it and it was somewhere around $2300. My first reaction was what are you nuts? You don’t have that kind of money and I personally didn’t like the style so I didn’t have much to say about it. Through a series of e-mail exchanges turned out that was her way of asking me to build her a writing desk in “the style that I build” as she put it and maybe I could give it to her for Christmas. I gave her a bunch of excuses why I couldn’t build it for her and the next day went to into the shop and measured the Maple I had left over from another project. Lucky me or should I say lucky her, I had more then enough 4/4 stock for the desk pictured. Not having anything thick enough for the legs I did buy tapered legs and planed them down a bit to make them thinner. It is all Maple with a little bit of birds eye on the front. The finish is thinned and dyed shellac and a couple of coats of wipe on poly.
It was ready for Christmas, she was surprised and she cherishes it.
Anybody else wants one it will be $2300 : )
